MALE BODY

A man’s fertility and sexual characteristics depend on the normal functioning of the male reproductive system.

There are a number of individual organs in the male body that act together to make up the male reproductive system. Some of the male sexual organs are visible, such as the penis and the scrotum, whereas some are hidden within the body.

The brain also has an important role in controlling reproductive function.

The male reproductive system is designed to make, store and transfer sperm to the female body. Each organ plays a role so that sperm, which are made and stored in the testis (testicles), develop normally and can be transferred to the female during sexual intercourse.

As with other organs in the body, sometimes things go wrong and medical help is needed to correct the problem.

Always seek the advice of a qualified doctor if you have any concerns about your health.

Information in this section gives an overview of the male reproductive system. For you to understand where problems in male reproductive health can happen, it is useful to understand how the normal and healthy system works. This section will give you some useful background information and can be used as a reference when reviewing other topics.  If you are unsure about any aspect of the normal male reproductive system, then advice should be sought from your local doctor.
